Right, but it doesn't taste like what I'm used to.

[What she's used to isn't exactly gourmet, but rabbit is definitely on the menu.]

Besides, it's satisfying to catch things yourself.

I know it is. But I always try to let them go.

Truthfully? I was on the road for a while, trying to find this place. A lot of fast-food and whatever I could find.

We mostly just ate it because sometimes it was cheap.

[She sympathizes, though, is what she's trying to say. She's just not very good at that.]

[In Alaska, she and her mother had been terribly poor. And towards the end of their stay in New Orleans, as well.]
