We were quite common in New Rome. It was a city where demigods could be safe to live out their lives without the fear of monsters - though clearly you all are fine with thrusting yourselves out to be eaten by some rampaging Minotaur after you leave here. And then, as many so often do, they raised families of their own in the city.

[He gestures matter-of-factly to himself.]

Hence the existence of those such as myself.

[Amelia eats her bread in lieu of snapping at the guy about that monster comment. He'd just lost his town, after all. She hadn't exactly been a bunch of roses when her mum had died.] I'm sorry. About New Rome, I mean. It can't be easy, trying to get used to a new place.

You should be. It was a majestic place, far better than anything any of you will ever know.

[He may or may not be a little bitter.

Okay, Octavian's a lot bitter.]

It's almost as if some of my fellow legionnaires have all but forgotten our home. It's dishonorable.

[Yeah okay, that does it.] You know, I wasn't going to be a dick about this, but you kind of ruined that. If your camp is so much better than ours, how come ours is the one still standing?

[She hits her stride, scowling at him. It's kind of...ineffective, because Amelia is very small, but her words make up for her stature.] Yeah, or maybe they're trying to make the best of a bad situation and not be huge assholes to the people who've reached out a hand to help them. You can be glad you're safe and have a roof over your head and still remember and miss your home. Trust me, I've been doing it for a while. And I swear to the gods, if you say something about Greeks being dishonourable, I will punch you in the mouth.

I've been told I 'ruin' many things here. Just because someone says it doesn't make it any more true.

[Which, by the way, Octavian? Also applies to a lot of the ideologies you're constantly spouting.

He's growing a bit tired of arguing, and picks at his food before making his next point.]

I suppose being here is much better than being chased by the grain spirits. Again.

[This is his way of begrudgingly thanking you.]

When one person says something, it doesn't necessarily make it true. Like say, you spouting off that I'll never see anything as majestic as your home. When a lot of people start saying a thing? You might want to consider that there's some truth behind it.

[She opens her mouth to continue arguing, but the way he picks at his food makes her pause, reconsider. Amelia sighs, shoving a hand back through brown curls] Just don't go saying shit like that to the Ares cabin, if you want to keep that impression. All I can do is yell and tell the future at you, they're way more creatively unpleasant when people piss them off.

[Octavian's silent. He's pretending to ignore what she's saying, but he is listening, taking the information into account. He'll have to rip open another stuffed animal tonight to find out if this girl is worth his time at all.]

The children of Mars are fierce warriors, yes, but I have always found something a bit lacking in their brutish behaviors.

[And then something catches his attention.]

You have the gift of prophecy?

[Octavian smiles almost-wickedly at her.]

Prove it.
