[Gabriel grinned. He could always count on Balthazar for some good, old-fashioned banter.

He looks up into the air, scratching his chin, and shrugs.]

Well, man, I think that's the first thing you should try for, then. I mean, Iris-Messages were kind of my big thing when I first got here. Chiron helped a lot, but with enough practice? I could do it with my brain, no time flat. You'll figure it out.

But I don't know if I should. Helping things grow up healthy is good, but I've heard people say they can make thorns and brambles grab things, or flytraps bite. Stuff like that.

[He rests his chin in his hands. He doesn't know the word 'ethics', but that's totally what he's thinking about.] It doesn't seem fair to make plants do things they wouldn't, naturally.

I don't know. Maybe it's because I don't really mess wiith living things? But I think there's a pretty big grey area as far as plants go. They don't work in the same ways as humans.

[What he's saying is, he's still not exactly sure if free will for the plants even exists. If pressed, he'd wonder if free will for demigods even existed, with all the self-fulfilling prophecies that get thrown around here.

But for what it's worth, he's here to push his own destiny out of the way as far as he can and live the way he wants to live, as much as he can. Screw that.]

Seriously, don't sweat this kind of stuff, Balth. You'll make yourself crazy.

I guess. It's not the same as being able to crush a person's spine or something. But still.

[At least he has no problems with eating plants, as evidenced by the fact that he's reaching for another berry.]

Someone has to sweat this stuff, Gabriel. If I don't think about it, then someone else will and then they'll try to tell me how to do it.

Dude, you could always crush someone's spine with a plant. I'm just saying. Maybe if you talk to them and become friends with the plants, then you'll feel less bad about having them do crap for you. Don't they say that if you talk to the plants they grow better?

[He plucks one off a vine and places it on Balthazar's head, trying to see how long it can balance there.]

Yeah, yeah, I know. You were never one to take orders from anybody. Just don't give yourself a heart attack or anything. I still don't know CPR.

I don't want to crush anyone's spine, though. [His lips quirk in a wry smile, that only widens as Gabriel balances a strawberry on his hand.]

I learned it from you, you know. The not taking orders.
