So as he passes through the tables, he catches sight and scent of Scott and turns, only to snort softly at what meets him. He makes his way over, slow and easy and silent, and reaches to tousle at his dark hair while he's got a mouthful of food. ]
Are you even tasting any of that?

[Say what you will about the Greeks, those harpies know how to cook.
Scott rips off one of the ribs - though it definitely doesn't have enough barbecue sauce on it for his liking - offering it to his centurion with a small smile.]
Want one?

[ It's good natured, at least, which says a lot about how Derek views Scott-- he's abrasive to most people, even those in his cohort, but there's a more friendly side that comes out with most of them. Scott is among them, reminding him of his family. So it's easy, sometimes, to simply be a little more at ease around him.
Moving to take a seat next to him, ignoring any looks he might get for sitting at Nike's table, he accepts the proffered rib with an amused chuff. ]

[Okay, it's a lie. But there's really no better excuse for why he's - pun intended - wolfing down his barbecue. Well, aside from the fact that he'd gotten lost in the woods on the way here and had to catch game for a while.
Yeah, that wasn't fun.]

[ Well, Scott actually isn't that far off, so there's that. Derek takes his time eating the rib that Scott passed over to him, not in any hurry like he is. On the other hand, though, he wasn't the one that actually got lost on his way to the camp-- more like he took his time getting there and wound up trying to find where the rest of his cohort had wound up after the fall of Camp Jupiter.
And he's also not the one that minds hunting game. ]

[Actually, what Derek's saying makes loads of sense, so he's just going to go with it. Beats any comeback he could have made up, anyway.
A great deal of the cohort, it seemed, made it back with Derek. Now, the only thing missing was his mom...]
Hey, I think it beats rabbits any day.

Inclining his head a little, he waits until he's finished eating the mouthful he has before he answers. ]
When you eat rabbit, it needs to be cooked properly. [ Or not at all, but that's only when Derek's shifted. ]

[There were times when it sucked being just a legacy - his type were more susceptible to common ailments like that, and it took a lot less ambrosia or nectar to burn through a legacy than a demigod.]

[ Having the double resistance that he does as a demigod and a monster, Derek hasn't quite gone through the same problems regarding becoming burnt out as Scott and his other legacies have. But a cohort looks out for its own, and ever since becoming a centurion he's tried to make sure that they don't fall behind.
He feels like he's failed in that, since the fall of their camp, but. ]

[it was only for two weeks, but Scott had learned a lot on his time away from Derek and the other members of his cohort. Namely, that he may have relied on them (and even his mom, who he hasn't seen since they evacuated New Rome) a little too much. Being out there by himself felt natural, primal, in a way.]
I mean, you're here, and the Praetor's found her way here, too. And there's a girl centurion in charge of Nike's kids here, I think.
