Katniss Everdeen / The Hunger Games / Daughter of Apollo
That's why Katniss prefers the woods. She's settled along the edge of the trees today, watching a set of rabbit snares that she's laid out along the nearby bushes. She rarely catches anything, with the exception of another camper's annoyance ... but it calms her down, being out here alone.]

He should really know better than to be in the woods by himself -- asthma, wolves, giant immortal-ish monsters, but he's armed with a dagger and shield, at least. In any case, he's settled down in a spot not too far away from Katniss, sketching and looking thoughtful.]

She picks up a small rock from near her feet and tosses it so that it lands a little in front of Steve, eyebrow raised at him.]
no subject
Hey. Am I interrupting?
no subject
[Which he ...didn't, because she was already watching him the moment she noticed he was headed into the forest.
Is that creepy? Does she care?]
no subject
no subject
...yeah, that's true. So no, you're not interrupting.

Hey, Everdeen.
no subject
What do you want, Odair?
[She's pretty sure the only reason he comes out here is to bother her, sometimes.]
no subject
The pleasure of your amazing company, of course.

[She sighs, shifting to face him more fully. Sometimes if she gives him attention in a timely manner, he'll get bored and go find one of his ladies (or men).]
no subject
I'm bored.
no subject
[Okay, see, she can tease back. A little.]

Carefully, she approached, trying to get a better look at the snare. It wasn't one of Gale's, she recognized that immediately. Cautiously, she called out:] Hello? Is anyone there?
no subject
Yeah.
[Her voice wasn't much above regular speaking, but she was getting up as Annie approached.]
I'm here. You saw the snare?
no subject
The wire caught the light- sorry, if I wasn't supposed to see it. I, ah, a friend of mine is good with them. He gave me some pointers... Sorry.
no subject
I'm just surprised. Most people walk right over it, and then get pissy when it gets caught on their shoe.
no subject
I guess, ah, I have good eye-sight. Or something. [She shrugs, always quick to get rid of any sort of praise being shouldered on her. She never did well with it. Even before everything that happened.]
no subject
Must be it. I didn't think I'd catch much this close to the shore, anyway.
[Other than a few annoyed campers, but she can't say that wasn't part of the point.]

There, dangling off the ground, was a terrified looking rabbit.] Oh, you poor thing! [Hazel dropped to the ground next to it.] C'mon. I'm going to get you out of there. Poor boy. [Gale must have left a snare lying around.]
no subject
...I was going to eat that, you know.
[It isn't that she doesn't like the camp food, it's just habit.]
no subject
Why would you do that? He's so cute.
There's food here.
no subject
[What she's used to isn't exactly gourmet, but rabbit is definitely on the menu.]
Besides, it's satisfying to catch things yourself.
no subject
[She's got the rabbit free now, and he merrily hops out of her lap as quick as he can. Hazel looks up at the older girl.]
I know it is. But I always try to let them go.
no subject
[Broken legs and things like that. What do you do in that situation, strange little girl?]
What're you used to?
