Octavian (Heroes of Olympus) - Augur of Camp Jupiter, Legacy of Apollo (ROMAN)

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Octavian's sitting alone at the edge of the Apollo cabin table, and he'd like to be left there, thank you very much.

It's bad enough that he had to lead a part of the Twelfth Legion away from their destroyed camp - even worse that he had to lead them here, of all places. But all the auguries pointed to it, every single strand of fiber-fil inside the stuffed animals he'd ripped apart told him no less. They'd even gotten specific instruction from Juno Moneta herself.

But the fact that he has to sit here, at the table for some bastardized version of his ancestor, while the Greeks mill about singing and writing poetry - that's what really gets him.]

I have no regrets.

[personal profile] promachos 2013-05-07 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
[It wasn't hard to notice Octavian trying to sit as far away from the rest of the Apollo campers. Most of the kids from the Apollo cabin were always happy, offering tunes and generally being happy. Annabeth got a long with a great many deal of them, and after she finished eating, she had gone over to the Apollo table to talk to Will Solace about some things.

When she was done, she happened to walk by Octavian, giving him a quick glance. When she speaks, it's with a grin and a bit of snark. She's clearly been hanging around Percy and Grover too much.]
Don't look too excited.

[This girl again. The Daughter of Min- no, Athena. She's almost more ridiculous than the others, a real abomination. Minerva was a virgin goddess, sworn to her work at crafts. She didn't have children, and it not only upset him, but confused Octavian that her Greek aspect did.

He shoots a positively icy glare up at Annabeth.]

Why should I spare any of you any pleasantries? I'll only be faking.

[personal profile] promachos 2013-05-07 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, so he was going to be like that. Fine then, if he was going to be rude, she would tell him so.]

First of all, you're lucky to even be here, to be alive. Second of all, we've accepted you into our home, opened our safe haven to you and your fellow campers, in hopes of trying to figure out how to defeat this new enemy.

Thirdly, it's rude to just ignore everyone, unless you want to end up on the bad end of someone. Some of the cabins like to play pranks on newer campers.

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Really, it would waste too much of Octavian's already dwindling patience to feign any sort of niceties to the Greeks. He's going to ignore everything Annabeth just said and harp on her third point.]

I find it to be even ruder that you people play 'pranks' on us. Frankly, they're not very funny, to anyone. You should really discipline that son of Arcus better.

[He'd just been on the recieving end of a pantsing by Gabriel, and then something new that the son of Iris liked to call a 'toga-ing', invented just for the occasion.

It wasn't pretty, and Octavian ripped apart one of Gabriel's Dream Lights as revenge and read him a (mostly untrue) augury from the fiberfil inside.]
promachos: (pic#5908033)

[personal profile] promachos 2013-05-07 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Chiron handled it. [Which she was pretty sure that Chiron told Gabriel to stop the needless pranks, because some of these Romans didn't understand the meaning of fun.]

If you didn't act like the way you are now they wouldn't do it. They do it for a reaction, and you're giving it to them.
ihopeithurt: (Default)

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
I believe your methods of 'handling it' aren't proving themselves, then, because clearly he hasn't found something better to do.

[He scratches his chin, then takes a bite of his bread, swallowing it and speaking again, not even looking at Annabeth.]

I wonder, have you all tried corporal punishment at all? It works wonders.
promachos: (pic#5908047)

[personal profile] promachos 2013-05-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
I highly doubt a harmless prank warrants corporal punishment. It doesn't even warrant a talk with Mr. D. [Who, of course, would be the one handing out said punishment, with him being a god and all.]

You're blowing it out of proportion. Or is that how you handle everything?

[A daughter of that bastardised version is sitting at the table as well, just kind of - watching him. Dubiously. Amelia absently tears off a chunk of bread, chewing slowly as she waits to see if he'll actually do anything, or if he's just going to sit there and stew.

She could always look into the future and see, of course, but that's no fun. Besides, this guy doesn't look like he'd be worth the headache.

Wait, how long have I been staring for??

Amelia clears her throat, straightening abruptly. Wow way to be a creep, self]
Uh. So you're Roman, right? [Genius, Pierce. Really.]

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He didn't want to talk to any of the Greek Apollonians, not at all. In fact, it offended him that they even existed.

Still, if Praetor Jason was watching, he'd give him a stern talking to about respecting those who granted them sanctuary. Regardless of whether he liked Jason or not, he was a Praetor of New Rome, and Octavian needed to follow his Praetor's wishes - though he'd do it begrudgingly.]

Yes. As were my parents before me.
foredoes: (the fuck are you doin)

[personal profile] foredoes 2013-05-07 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Amelia blinked] Par - hold on, both of them? [The implication is obviously that he's not actually a son of Apollo, and Amelia just barely manages to bite her tongue on a 'so what are you doing here, then?'. They're obviously related somehow, and a general rule of thumb in this world is to not piss anyone off if you could help it. Especially if you didn't have any particular abilities to defend yourself with.]

How does that work?
ihopeithurt: (Default)

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
No, not both. My father was a demigod. I'm a legacy, though I doubt you've ever heard of them, being a graecus.

[He prided himself on it, as he inherited all the good traits of being a demigod without any of the more annoying ones like being raised by a single parent and all. His parents lived in the city of New Rome and raised him there, before it was destroyed.]
foredoes: (legit pissed)

[personal profile] foredoes 2013-05-07 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[She raises her eyebrows slightly] You already told me you were Roman, you don't need to Latin at me to prove it. Promise. [She tears off some more bread, but doesn't eat it yet.] You're right though, I haven't heard about it. Most Greek demigods come here to train and then go live in the real world.

[Something in her expression tightens a little, but she doesn't elaborate. Amelia is a year-rounder, and she really doesn't want to be.]
ihopeithurt: (Default)

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
We were quite common in New Rome. It was a city where demigods could be safe to live out their lives without the fear of monsters - though clearly you all are fine with thrusting yourselves out to be eaten by some rampaging Minotaur after you leave here. And then, as many so often do, they raised families of their own in the city.

[He gestures matter-of-factly to himself.]

Hence the existence of those such as myself.
foredoes: (uh)

[personal profile] foredoes 2013-05-07 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Amelia eats her bread in lieu of snapping at the guy about that monster comment. He'd just lost his town, after all. She hadn't exactly been a bunch of roses when her mum had died.] I'm sorry. About New Rome, I mean. It can't be easy, trying to get used to a new place.

[Rachel was on her way back to the Big House when she noticed the Roman sitting by himself. She wasn't very familiar with him, but, she had heard that he was their augur. Which was something like what she was, right? She still wasn't so sure about all the lingo from the Romans....

Stopping at a reasonable distance away, she tilted her head at him, arms crossed.]

Hey. Settling in okay?

[Might as well be polite.]

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-07 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Not particularly.

[Octavian frowns into his cup of milk, muttering as she talks to him. Though she's talking to him from quite a ways away, there's no reason to shout back at her and waste his precious energy. If the girl wants to talk to him so badly, she can very well come over there and do it.]

[Rachel tries not to roll her eyes. She knew Romans were kind of off putting, but... She was just trying to be polite. She crossed over to him, arms still crossed.]

Right... sorry to hear that. It can't be easy.

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-10 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not. I don't even believe my parents have arrived yet.

[He takes a sip of milk, scowling.]

I wonder if they'll even be able to find it. New Rome was all they knew, and they weren't exactly children of Terminus.

[If those sorts of people even existed.]

RISES LIKE A KRAKEN

[personal profile] worldabouttodawn 2013-05-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh hey Octavian. Have a Son of Apollo who is going to attempt to be friendly because it's his duty as the acting counselor of the cabin. Except he's fairly sure that he's going to want to punch you in the face. He won't, of course, but oh how Enjolras will want too.]

You are aware that despite how much you glare they won't stop.

[He takes a seat across from him, expression tight.]

THIS DOESNT SOUND LIKE PATRIOTISM

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-08 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
And why not? This worked plenty well at home for some of the more...frivolous members of the Fulminata.

[He doesn't even look at Enjolras, preferring to stare into his cup of milk instead.]

So I've heard. You Greeks barely know how to conduct haruspication properly. All these...Oracles, and whatnot. They're nonsense.

[He plays with his dinner knife in his fingers, almost as if he's examining it to see if it's useful at all.]

Re: THIS DOESNT SOUND LIKE PATRIOTISM

[You can tell Enjolras is holding back from saying something particularly cruel. Just barely.]

Perhaps to you, but to us they are important.

Re: THIS DOESNT SOUND LIKE PATRIOTISM

[personal profile] ihopeithurt 2013-05-10 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't understand why. The use of Oracles may be traditional, but haruspication and auguries are more advanced. What's the phrase I'm looking for? Oh, yes. 'Get with the times.'

[They may be the times of centuries ago, but they always worked for Octavian.

Well...usually.]
