THE CLIMBING WALL

[Wow, it seems like there's a lot more lava here than usual...]

Jill (All Superheroes Must Die) | Daughter of Nike

[Generally, Jill actually likes the wall, but she's standing in front of it today, arms crossed over her chest as she stares at it. As much as she likes to prove herself, there's a lot more lava today than she's used to, and she's thinking that maybe even good luck isn't going to save her from singed fingertips.]

[Dany doesn't really like climbing the wall, for the most part. She's never been particularly good at it.

What she does like about it is watching the lava, and today is the perfect day to do so, as she sits a ways away from the wall. She loves studying the way the molten rock flows, how it bubbles and changes with each moment. It's one of the few heat sources at camp she can't control, but she likes to think she can take a lesson or two from the lava.]

[Glancing around, Jill notices one of the other campers nearby. Hephaestus kid. She nods at her, jerking her thumb in the direction of the wall.] Hey, you know what's going on with the lava today? [Because maybe she's missed the memo that sometimes it gets a little extreme, like out to get some poor kid extreme.]

The intensity varies from day to day.

[She calls over to Jill, still sitting at a safe distance, staring up at the molten rock.]

It's to test our endurance in difficult situations. I'm not sure who controls it.

[She glances back at the wall with a look of uncertainty.] How often are we really going to be climbing up volcanoes that are exploding? [There's a smile playing on her lips, though. It's not a big deal, but sometimes she wonders what demigod had been the reason for the wall to be added.]

[ Ben learned a long while ago that being overprotective of Jill doesn't particularly go over well with her. At least not in the sense of telling her not to do something because he's worried about the danger. So he is just... going to keep his mouth shut about that while they're staring up at the wall. That is... a lot of lava. ]

...You know the wind's pretty good for archery right now too. [ That's not... explicitly telling her not to do it, is it? ]

[Jill tilts her head, looking at Ben with a slight smile at the suggestion. Yeah, attempting the wall seems like a bit suicidal, but... It's a challenge.]

But I'm not really all that good at archery. [And also Ben not wanting her to do it makes her want to do it even more.] Why don't you race me?

[ ...Wow being preoccupied with trying to win a race is absolutely not the thing either of them need to be doing with that much lava going on. ]

Not sure that's a great idea. [ He would pretty much feel terrible if she got hurt trying to beat him up the wall. ] I'll go with you, but take it easy, okay?

[staysthesame]

[Hey, he's the Ares kid. She figured he'd appreciate the competition, but Jill likes when he suggests they just take it easy instead. Not because she's worried about herself, but she's worried about if he rushes and slips up. Lava's no joke.]

If you're not careful, someone might think you have a soft spot, you know.

[Hey half-sister. Zoey is sort of new at the whole 'demigod thing' and so she just stared at the wall and sighed.] "This would be fun if it didn't have the lava." Zoey said to no one but herself softly.

[It's weird for Jill to think she actually has siblings. She went unclaimed for so long, but she gives Zoey a smile.] It's fun even with the lava. We can't expect things to be easy for us out in the real world.

Zoey had a slight chuckle at that. "I'm still getting used to all this stuff myself. I'm not used to all this trianing stuff or that there are actually real Gods."

"You get used to it after awhile," Jill reassures. She hadn't been sure about the training at first, either. Or the gods, for that matter. "Both things, that is. You'll like the training more, though. Trust me."

[ There's a pretty blonde at the base of the climbing wall, touching up her lipgloss. Her hair smells like lava, but her purple shirt remains unsinged and she's looking pretty smug about it. From the way she looks up at it again, pocketing her compact and gloss, it looks like she's prepping herself for another go. ]

[The lava wall, the arena, and the like have never been Lydia's forte. Admittedly, she's always had a strange interest in the macabre, so all that blood spilling and roaring lava should really get her going.

She's found herself constantly gravitating to the arts and crafts cabin, though, and she's actually created herself something of a darkroom under one of the tables. She's on her way right now, actually, when she sees Heather at the bottom, looking ready to rock and roll.]

Don't burn yourself too bad up there. I hear gangrene's nasty.

[excusing]

Haven't been burned yet.

[ She grins and stretches her arms over her head, arching her back slightly. ] At least not so badly. I think it singed my bangs a little, but - ain't no thing! [ Heather bounces from foot to foot, keeping her energy level up along with her heart rate. ] Where are you off to today? I figure it's not the wall.

You can always just push them back, I guess. It's nothing I haven't ever done with a flat iron before.

[Lydia shrugs, watching the girl bounce around. Her enthusiasm is infectious, but if it's getting to her, it's not noticeable.]

Arts and crafts again. I don't think I'm really built for all this combat stuff.

[At the bottom of the wall, shading his eyes, is Dave. He watches the other boy for a few minutes, then shouts up to him.]

Hey, Karkat!

[tantrumbingo]

Oh for the love of...

[Muttering under his breath, considering this was probably the one person he didn't want to see right now given his circumstances. He turns his head to look over his shoulder, yelling back.]

What the fuck is it now, Dave?

[Karkat hush you know this guy right here is your BFF and that's why he's here to cheer you on.

Or something.]

How long you gonna be cicada-blocking against that corner before you ask for help?

[Guess who is floating at around Karkat's height completely unattached to the wall.]

Hey, Karkat!

[tantrumbingo]

[The interruption behind him almost makes him jump, the only indication that he did the fact that he slides down the wall a few meters before he manages to grab hold of it again with shaky fingers, hauling himself up and glaring daggers up at the other boy.]

Goddamnit, John, warn a guy before you make them nearly piss their pants!
